Espresso is both a coffee beverage and a brewing method. It is not a specific bean, bean blend, or roast level. Any bean or roasting level can be used to produce authentic espresso. For example, in southern Italy, a darker roast is generally preferred; but farther north, the trend moves toward slightly lighter roasts. Outside Italy a wide range of roasts are popular. Most espresso is a blend of at least three different coffee origins. Some will be four or more. We know that there is some great single origin coffee that will make great espresso or coffee drinks. The amount of crema is increased with adding a little(5-10%) robusto coffees. We at JumpinJakJava strive to roast the best espresso. Hopefully we will find the perfect espresso. We will make no claims to have found it yet!
